BSSI Attends Quarterly Peer Business Meeting

As a business owner, I find it refreshing to meet with my peers from across United States to not only stay on top of technology, but to find what issues others are facing, industry best practices and better ways we can educate our clients regarding these matters. I just returned from the 4 day quarterly meeting with a lot of great ideas on how we can better take care of our clients. I met a lot of great speakers including Patrick Thean; Dave Crenshaw, author of The Myth of Multitasking; Larry Schulze; Robin Robins, David Meerman Scott the author of “The New Rules of Marketing & PR”; Randy Schwants author of ”The Wedge”; and Jim Camp the author of “NO: The Only Negotiating Strategy You Need for Work and Home”. Mr. Camp had the opportunity of working with Woody Hayes several times as a negotiation coach. (Go Bucks!) In addition, I met hundreds of small business owners across the US who have a strong desire to help each other succeed. I was very blessed with the experience and I am excited about implementing some of these ideas to better serve our clients. Here a couple of pictures for the seminar.
Adobe Reader Malicious Attacks
Posted by admin on April 19, 2010 | No Comments
Identity thieves are now using the “/launch” command feature in Adobe Reader to launch malicious attacks. It is the same “feature” that’s been in the news in recent weeks.
When the PDF is opened In Adobe Reader with JavaScript enabled, a dialog box is displayed asking the user to “Specify a file to extract to”.
This could be somewhat confusing to users, and not really knowing what is happening, they may just click save (It appears as if they are just saving a PDF file after all). Adobe is considering a patch to change the behavior of the software. In the meantime, the company is suggesting that users configure its PDF Reader product to limit the damage from an attack.
Here are the instructions for mitigating a potential attack:
Users can also turn off this functionality in the Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat Preferences by selecting > Edit > Preferences > Categories > Trust Manager > PDF File Attachments and clearing (unchecking) the box “Allow opening of non-PDF file attachments with external applications”
